Introduction
Bachelor of English and Communication Studies (BECS) is a four-year interdisciplinary programme with academic and professional orientation. The goal of the programme is to produce competent graduates with highest academic, technical and practical knowledge, skill and technology to meet the national and international demand of professionals, communicators, and enthusiast academics in English. The focus of the programme is to produce fully capable and competent emerging human resources who would be able to lead on the matters of technical communication in English language for the 21st Century.
Objectives of the Programme
The objective of the course is to culminate in knowledge, skill and practice in the technical communication and professional areas of English language and the course is designed to achieve the following specific objectives.
- Allow students to develop an in-depth understanding of the English language and its role in this complex, globalized world, as well as an in-depth understanding of communication in terms of how it functions at interpersonal, public, group and intercultural levels;
- Enable students to understand the many complex and fascinating ways in which English and communication work in the world and make their appropriate use in different domains of human activity;
- Instruct students to carry out independent research in their area(s) of specialization and familiarize themselves with information gathering, retrieval and dissemination techniques and write, edit and publish documents in different genres, and be sensitive to issues of culture, gender and national cohesion in language and communication strategies;
- Equip students with a set of core knowledge, skills, and competencies required to work in communication and education industries through scientific investigation, discourse, technical writing and presentation skills;
- Keep students abreast with current developments and issues in the English language and Communication studies;
- Train students towards fulfilling the demand of technical and professional human resources required for English language.
- Develop the extracurricular competencies through training, seminar and exposure.
